TEACHER TRAINING WORKSHOPS WITH CHILDSCAPES TEAM

A collaborative project between FICA Art Educators Forum and PVR Nest's Childscapes team.

The Art Educators Forum is mobilising its resources and expertise to develop a four-session teacher traning programme for the Childscapes Team of Educators who work as part of the Childscapes iniviative by PVR Nest. One FICA Art Ed Forum member will lead every session and develop a series of exercises for the workshop that will focus on three main points:

1. How to teach the children the basics of languages, maths and subjects so as to prepare them to be placed in mainstream schools.
2. How to engage them in creative exercises that allow them to share their personal stories and experiences, open up venues to discuss sensitive topics and share their problems withthe educators.  Since Childscapes works with "Children at Risk"  this is a particualry important part of teaching method.
3. How to make teaching a dialogical exercise, and add value to the educator's own sphere of experience and expertise.

About Childscapes
Childscapes reaches out to "Children at Risk" who are visible in and around PVR complexes, malls, shopping arcades and traffic areas and sustain themselves economically through activities like begging, rag-picking, etc. Under this program, PVR Nest engages with the children at various 5 centers, based at PVR Complexes in Vasant Vihar, Saket, Naraina, Vikaspuri and Lajpat Nagar. Carefully planned educational, social and cultural activities are designed to engage and educate the children and equip them for the future. Through Childscapes, we reach out to over 500 necessitous children, where more than 250 get mainstreamed into the formal schooling system and over 100 have been rehabilitated, annually.
