The Foundation for Indian Contemporary Art in collaboration with Polish Institute New Delhi invite registrations for a workshop on curation titled
'Trans-regional meetings: how to initiate a dialogue between an Indian and a Polish artist?'
Conducted by Marta Smolińska
Friday, July 22, 2016 | 3 – 7 pm
FICA Reading Room, D 42, Defence Colony, New Delhi
Limited seats. Register for the workshop at email@example.com
The workshop, held by Polish curator and art historian Marta Smolińska, is designed for young curators. During the workshop we are going to arrange some potential dialoques between Indian and Polish artists to ask questions about the similarities and differences between these two art scenes.
The theoretical framework will engage with the concept of the horizontal art history by Piotr Piotrowski and the metapher of self-colonising by Alexander Kiossev. This workshop will be designed around the practice of the curator facilitating the workshop and will focus on the role of the curator in creating an exhibitory context that generates dialogue between artists from different locations. There will be a special emphasis on modes of curatorial writing, which range from press release to the curatorial note.
The interactive session will be based on a small exercise given to the group prior to the workshop. Registered participants are expected to carry out basic research, reading and writing in preparation for the workshop.
