CRAFTING NARRATIVES: A CHILDREN’S WORKSHOP

A children’s workshop, titled ‘Crafting Narratives’ was organized on September 2, 2017 at Saffronart, Claridges Hotel, New Delhi as part of the Delhi Contemporary Art Weekend. A collaborative venture organized by the Foundation for Indian Contemporary Art (FICA) and TAKE on art magazine, five galleries from across the city, namely- Vadehra Art Gallery, Gallery Espace, Latitude28, Nature Morte and Shrine Empire- displayed artworks from their respective collections from the contemporary oeuvre as part of this exhibition.

The workshop, aimed at inculcating interest for contemporary art in children, was conducted by Bhavna Kakar, gallerist and editor, who took the group of participants, aged between 8 and 14, on a walk-through of the exhibition and followed it with a collage-making session directed towards intuitive art-making.They played around with paper, paint, confetti and other miscellaneous materials and ended the session with many artworks where the available mediums were made use of in a variety of ways to create objects and impressions. The artworks were laid out on the floor to dry, following which the young artists were free to choose if they wanted to take their creations back to exhibit them proudly to their friends and family!

We had immense fun with the young artists and look forward to more such adventures in the future!
