Contemporary Indian Art:
Gallery Talk led by Deeksha Nath

Dray Walk Gallery, London
February 16, 2007

Deeksha Nath, art historian and independent curator, walked viewers through Here and Now: Young Voices from India, the final exhibition in Grosvenor Vadehra’s three part series on Indian art from post-independence to the present day. The series, which has featured artists from four generations, finished with a showing of twenty-four leading contemporary Indian artists. Deeksha led a discussion on the current

tensions in contemporary Indian art. India has witnessed the emergence of a new generation of artists. Their pioneering works have forced us to question our assumptions about Indian art as they break from tradition into new mediums and styles. Artists Rajnish Kaur, Shibu Natesan, Sumedh Rajendran, Mithu Sen and Anjum Singh presented their personal journeys as practicing artists.

Deeksha studied at the MS University, Vadodara, and at the City University, London, and has worked at the Tate Modern, London, and the NGMA, New Delhi.
